Mumbai, July 16 Diamonds are the best friend of a woman and using this concept, Shekhar Eye Research has created lenses with diamonds embedded in them for charity. "People today like wearing diamonds on their teeth, so why not in the eye," Shekhar Eye Research Managing Director, Chandrashekhar Chawan, told reporters here today. The lenses are custom-made and can be worn by men and woman alike, though women are more likely to opt for the new lenses due to their fondness for jewellery, he said. Each pair of lens is encrusted with 18 diamonds on a gold plate, designed by Sanjay Shah of Nine Diam.
The diamond lenses would cost Rs 7-lakh and the plain gold plate lenses Rs 5-lakh. Shah said the design can also be customised according to the needs of an individual but would cost a bit more. "This is going to be exclusive as we are going to be making only 3,996 lenses," Chawan said. The lens can be worn all through the day and can be used throughout the life and has a guarantee certificate for the diamond. The profit arising from the sale of these lenses would be used to treat a person suffering from Stevens Johnson Syndrome free of cost, he added. Stevens Johnson Syndrome is a skin disease that usually results from a drug reaction, mostly sulphur-based drugs. It affects the tear glands in the eyes (glands that help to keep the eyes moist) and leads to loss of vision. Rotary Club's Mumbai District Chairman, B M Shivraj, purchased the diamond encrusted lens for Rs 7-lakh to support the charitable cause. —PTI |
